Do you still have pain or discomfort from an old injury?

We all experience pain and injuries from time to time. Tapping can help us quickly and easily relieve the discomfort and emotional impact it may caused us. Even when the injury occurred a long time ago, and there's "medical evidence" for why you are in pain, tapping can still bring surprising results.

I first discovered this when a minor accident left me crippled and unable to walk more than a few steps without great pain. I was recommended that I have a double spinal fusion, with the prospect of more spinal fusions every few years to support my unstable spine. I wasn't thrilled with that prospect and so while on the wait list for surgery, I began tapping on every aspect I could think of that might possibly be involved.

After several months of daily tapping I came across something which gave me a major "Aha", and within 24 hours I was able to walk normally again without the pain. The surgeons could not understand why I was able to walk again given that I was missing bits of my vertebrae and nothing had changed on the x-rays.  Some 8 years later I am still well and able to horse ride, walk, kayak etc without pain.

Not everyone will have the same results, but I have seen this often enough I highly recommend you give it a go. What have you to loose except your pain and limitations?

I recommend you try the following steps in order until you gain the relief you need:

  1. Tap on the physical symptoms as specifically as you can – location, sensation, metaphor if applicable eg “This sharp red hot needle burning into my left thumb.
  2. Tap on the emotions the pain brings up in you – “I’m being ridiculous for making such a fuss about a sore thumb!
  3. Tap on the story about how the pain originated – “Hitting myself with the hammer… I deserve it for being such a klutz.”
  4. If the injury had a sudden onset, look at what happened in your life in the 48 hours prior to the injury for a possible emotional origin.
  5. If the pain is chronic and has had a more gradual onset, look at what happened in your life 12-18 months prior to the onset for a possible emotional origin.
  6. Tap on the dark side – your positive reasons for not getting over it (all that lovely sympathy!) and your negative reasons for holding onto it (someone else will do the job for me). With chronic pain there is almost always an unconscious  psychological reason for maintaining the pain. 

Usually you’ll find the discomfort and emotions will recede with some careful attention to details. More serious injuries and illnesses can have many aspects and origins, and in this case you might want to seek some professional guidance to explore these thoroughly.

Would it be worth spending a few minutes a day removing these stresses and conflicts? If a few minutes seems like too big a commitment, just stop and consider how long you spend each day going round and round debating with yourself over issues, berating yourself for past mistakes, making the same mistakes over and over…

I bet it’s a lot more than a few minutes a day! So how do you want to spend your time? Going over the same ground getting more and more frustrated with yourself, or letting it go? The personal peace procedure is the cornerstone to transforming your life with EFT. It breaks things down into manageable bite sized pieces, so you can begin to make progress towards your goals.

Begin by making a written list of all the negative experiences you remember or have been told about that happened to you before you went to school, even if you don’t have much emotion about them for now. Now make a list for the primary school years, then the high school years and so on, through your life till the present day. If you haven’t got at least 50 events on your lists, think harder!

Once you have the beginnings of your lists, select one event every day (starting with the preschool ones) and tap it out using the movie or story technique. A great place I found to do this was in the bath each evening – cleaning inner and outer!

Most people experience significant improvements in their happiness and wellbeing if they follow this procedure over a 3 month period. Remember world peace begins with peaceful hearts, so let’s start today.

How to Choose a Meditation to Suit your Purposes

People are increasingly turning to meditation for stress-relief, and scientists are gaining a better understanding of how different techniques from Buddhist, Chinese, and Vedic traditions produce different results.

A paper recently published in Consciousness and Cognition discusses three categories to organize and better understand meditation:

"Meditations differ in both their ingredients and their effects, just as medicines do. Lumping them all together as "essentially the same" is simply a mistake," said Jonathan Shear, Ph.D. "The idea is that meditation is, in a sense, a 'cognitive task,' and EEG frequencies are known for different tasks," said Fred Travis, Ph.D. 

Focused attention, enhancing beta/gamma activity, includes meditations from Tibetan Buddhist (loving kindness and compassion), and Buddhist (Zen and Diamond Way) traditions. 
In Beta, you are wide-awake and alert. Beta waves range between 13-40 HZ. Neurons fire abundantly, in rapid succession. Your mind is sharp, focused. You make connections quickly, easily, and you're primed to do work that requires your full attention. Beta brainwaves help you prepare for an exam, give a presentation, analyze and organize information and other activities where mental alertness and high levels of concentration are key to your success. 
Gamma waves work like the glue of the mind, holding and connecting all your senses and thought processes together in a unified whole. Higher Gamma activity also works as a natural anti-depressant, boosting your mood, empathy, and compassion. Boosting Gamma activity will increase energy and alertness making it ideal for any kind of high intensity workout.

Open monitoring, characterized by theta activity, includes meditations from Buddhist (Mindfulness, and ZaZen), Chinese (Qigong), and Vedic (Sahaja Yoga) traditions.Theta is one of the more elusive and extraordinary brain states you can explore. It is also known as the twilight state which you normally only experience fleetingly upon waking, or drifting off to sleep. In theta, you are in a waking dream, receptivity is heightened and you are able to access knowledge and information that normally lies beyond your conscious awareness. help you access those higher levels of creativity that are essential to finding the answers you long for. These are answers you can't find in books or from other people. They are the true answers that reside within your own subconscious mind. 

Automatic self-transcending, increases by alpha1 activity, included meditations from Vedic (Transcendental Meditation) and Chinese (Qigong) traditions.
The Alpha state is an intensely pleasurable and relaxed state of consciousness essential to stress reduction and high levels of creativity. Artists, musicians and athletes are prolific alpha producers; so are intuitive persons. Alpha waves reduce Cortisol levels, strengthen your immune system and counteract the negative effects of stress. Alpha waves also increase the production of Melatonin to greatly improve the quality of your sleep. In Alpha, you can access the wealth of creativity that lies just below your conscious awareness - it is the gateway that leads into deeper states of consciousness. Alpha is also the home of the window frequency known as the Schuman Resonance 7.83 Hz, the resonant frequency of the earth's electromagnetic field.

Developing a range of meditation skills can help you chose wisely for the results you are looking for. No style is "better" than the others, but it can be better for your purposes.
